Monte Pisano (The Mount of Pisa)

Monte Pisano (The Mount of Pisa)

…” i monti per cui i Pisani veder Lucca non ponno” (“the mounts because of which the Pisans could not see Lucca”), Dante called it… Not knowing mass tourism yet, this territory including several towns between the provinces of Lucca and Pisa offers old chestnut woods, olive groves and small villages of ancient history; there are itineraries open also to bikes, glades that you can unexpectedly discover in the middle of old forests, footpaths that go through the massif – from the south side in the province of Pisa to the north side in the area of Lucca.

Following Dante’s track we will see ancient hermitages, waterworks, old mills, monasteries and “Metati” (traditional small houses) that remind us of the culture of the chestnut, the Oil and Wine Routes.

Recommended choice:
the altitude swings from a minimum of 0m to a maximum of 800m above sea level, therefore it is recommended to adapt the excursion to the climatic and seasonal requirements, having a preference for the south side in summer. The tours can be accommodated according to the number of the participants and to the means of transport available (car, bike,… feet!) and can be made in half a day.
